An update of sorts:

1. I hate having a bad back. My back problems have caused me to force [livejournal.com profile] dadaginny to leave things early. It happened again at the KC Ren Fest last weekend. I have a nice staff that I should've brought but didn't. Wasn't sure if it would help or not. If I stand up for extended periods of time, my back starts to hurt and I have to sit down. I think this is related to my foot problems as well. Anyone know a good chiropractor or podiatrist? I hate doing this to poor Gingin. She misses out on things because of my back and I want it to stop.

2. KC Ren Fest was fun as always. Was looking for a few accessories for my Scottish ensemble. I have a full kilt that you have to wrap around and stuff. Not one of those "pull ups" that most people wear. Got a shirt to go with it and a beret, but need some boots. Also got other small things too. Picked up a tankard and a kilt pin this time around. Watched The Jolly Rogers as usual and checked out the Musical Blades.

3. Got my second level 75 job on FFXI this past week. Got BLM to 75 earlier than expected and even did my first Dynamis run with it yesterday. Time to get RDM to 37 and then work on THF, WAR, NIN and finally SAM.

Other than that, same 'ol, same 'ol. Wanted to take next week off, but I don't have a backup at work anymore. Well, I do but he's not ready for being in the field. As a result, I was only allowed to take a couple of days off, so I'm taking Thursday and Friday (Halloween) off.

And, no. I am NOT doing Rocky Horror this year. I'm done.
kaithepirate: (Default)
Well, I was doing my usual "check my balance" this week and saw how much I have to use until next payday (next Friday) and it wasn't pretty.

I'm doing fine for food, bills are caught up, etc., but it was still upsetting to realize how much I spent in the past week. Some of it went to a recent Six Flags trip with [livejournal.com profile] dadaginny, but most went to fireworks and other "entertainment."

So, to make sure this doesn't happen again, I've done the following:

1. Canceled my subscription to Giganews.
2. Canceled my subscription to NetFlix.
3. Canceled my subscription to XM Radio.

Those alone will save me an average of $50 per month. I refuse to cancel my FFXI account. I need some entertainment in my life. Plus, I'm going to finally sit down and set up a strict budget for myself. I'm trying to change my diet, but being on the road a lot, my only choice that I convinced myself of was fast food. No more. Brown bagging it when ever possible.

Other changes I've made were eliminating soda as much as possible. I've been drinking more tea and water and even reusing the bottles. I also got a Brita water pitcher since I can't stand the tap water here. Brita makes it much more tolerable.

I've also got some serious things coming up and I REALLY need to start saving. Myself and [livejournal.com profile] dadaginny are planning on going to Disneyworld next summer and are going to need the cash. Plus, a house is in our future and we'll need a hefty down payment for that.

Anywho, that's what's up.

A comic legend passed away yesterday.

If you haven't guessed the words of the title of the post, they are the seven words George Carlin said could not be said on TV.

Carlin had many health issues in the past 20+ years, but his heart finally gave out on him. He suffered at last 2 heart attacks during his lifetime and even joked about them in 1982 for one of his most popular HBO specials "Carlin at Carnegie."

"In the 'Health Update Department', I currently lead Richard Pryor two heart attacks to one. Richard had a heart attack, then I had one. Richard blew himself up, soooooo I had another heart attack."

I wish I had more to say. I had the pleasure of seeing him perform live twice. The first time was back in 1982-1983 right after the Carlin at Carnegie first aired. The second time was actually this past February. He was funny both times and had me clutching my sides both times.

I'll just leave with this quote:

"Frisbeetarianism is the belief that when you die, your soul goes up on the roof and gets stuck." -George Carlin

In honor of Carlin, I will be buying a frisbee and throwing it on my roof.

Sorry I haven't posted in the past four months. I dunno why, but I just never thought about it.

A lot has happened since the last time, so here it goes:

1. Got promoted at work. I'm now the full-time Double Agent. My predecesor decided that driving the G-Ride into a ditch at 1am and not reporting it was the "right thing to do." I don't spend much time in the store anymore. Mostly out in the field. Job is quite fun.

2. I've been sick for the past 2-3 months. Finally went to the doctor after much prodding. Was diagnosed with walking pneumonia the first time. Got a Z-Pack. It helped, but it never fully went away.

3. Round two on the doctor visits was yesterday. Had an inner ear infection, and went to get an x-ray done (waiting for call as I type this). Probably have bronchitis or full blown pneumonia. I have some more antibiotics and medicinal steroids.

4. I have one of this magic bullets. I love it. Been making smoothies a lot with it and also made some ranch dressing. Dressing didn't come out like I wanted, but it wasn't horrid.

5. Quit smoking completely. Haven't had cigarette or wanted one in over a month.

6. Saw Blue Man Group over the weekend. Much awesomeness.

More later.

Well, it's been a few weeks since I posted, so let me fill you in on a few things.

A job title change at work has happened. I'm a Geek Squad Agent. One of the most commonly asked questions I get is "Do you get to drive the bug?" For Agents out in the field (called Double Agents), they drive a VW Bug as their official vehicle. I do NOT get to drive the bug...at least not yet.

I have been bumped up to what's called an "Agent on Deck." This means I will spend about 80% of my time in the store doing what I've been doing for the past couple of years. The remaining time will be spent outside of the store helping out our current DA in case of emergencies, etc.

So, yes. I CAN drive the bug if needed. :-P

More schtuff after the cut.... )

Well, I just set everything to where the domain I've owned for several years will expire on 2/26/2008. I used to run a Tenchi fan site, but if you go to it now, you'll see that it's been over 2 years since I updated it and I only kept the domain around for e-mail.

Well, I really don't want to spend the $15 a month just for that when my ISP gives me 5 e-mail adresses for free.

I notified my host that I will be cancelling my account and the site will be disappearing within the next week. I just never had the time to update it, plus I kinda lost interest in running a fan site awhile ago.

So, shed a tear for tenchifan.com as it will disappear soon.

This means that my primary e-mail address will change. I will only give it out to certain people as I don't want my mailboxes filled up with spam. If you want it, look for me on MSN messenger (ranma_s50@hotmail.com) or AIM (TenchiFanLA) and I'll give it to you.

Going to do the Rocky Horror Picture Show one more time. I keep telling myself that I won't do it anymore, but people close to me know that I'm not serious about "retiring" from it. Just not as fun for me anymore.

It took awhile, but I finally have internet access in my apartment. I was hoping that Mediacom (the company) could install an outlet in the room where my computers are, but they couldn't do it. Too much wiring and I wouldn't get a strong signal. As it stands now, the cable modem and my router are next to the TV. Oh well.

So, both my iMac and PC are wireless. The Mac was a pain in the ass to get setup for it, but it works.

Other than that, things are going okay. Allergies are acting up. Helped [livejournal.com profile] dadaginny upgrade her desktop and there were lots of kitteh hairs in the room. Not good. Also, the weather here is completely wonky and that doesn't help.

Anyways, off to Wal-Mart. Still have things to get for my apartment. :-P

Well, I've only been back in Columbia for less than a month and I already have a job interview at Mizzou. It's Monday. *fingers crossed*

Saw Rush last night in St. Louis again.

Well, I've been in Columbia for a week now. Work is going fine.

I found an apartment and will be going back to Baton Rouge for the rest of my stuff Labor Day weekend. Fun!
kaithepirate: (more cowbell)
Tonight was my last night at Best Buy in Baton Rouge.

Tomorrow morning, I begin the 12 hour drive to Columbia, MO and begin the next phase in my life and to be honest, I have no intentions of moving anywhere else after this.

After a day of recovery and apartment hunting, I begin working at a new Best Buy.

I'm really looking forward to working with new people, but I'm mainly looking forward to being around my friends again. Most of my friends live in Columbia and the St. Louis area, so I will hopefully become more social than I have been these past few years.

Anyways, for those who know how to get in touch with me nothing will change. If you have my e-mail address(es) and cell phone number, use them if you want. :)

I'll try and post an update once I get up there, but we shall see.

Peace out!
kaithepirate: (Default)
Well, after much arguing and general irritable feelings, the date I can leave Baton Rouge to start the rest of my life in Columbia.

The date I leave Baton Rouge is 8/5 and I start work on 8/7 (my birthday).

I'm a little calmer now, but still wish it could've been sooner.

FINISHED!

I finished the new Harry Potter book.

No, I will not spoil it for anyone.

Still, great book and a fitting finish to the series.
kaithepirate: (more cowbell)
I started reading the new HP this morning. At work now. Will be offline until I'm finished.
kaithepirate: (cheat)
Well, I told my store what was going on and to say that they were excited would be a bold-faced lie.

They are NOT pleased and quite frankly, I'm LIVID!

It seems as if I can't be spared until after August 5th or 6th and they are trying to get me to stay until. That's fine and dandy, but they way they told me that I can't leave when the other store needs me was what set me off.

I was told to be up there on the 28th so I can go through a training that they were doing otherwise I would be "lost." My boss said that it was bullshit and to call their bluff.

Huh? I'm just passing information a long. Don't fuss at me.

I almost walked out last night. I was THAT pissed!!

Anyways, my soon-to-be boss and current boss are going to negotiate on when I can get up there. I hope it's sooner than later.
kaithepirate: (more cowbell)
... I'll be moving back to Columbia.

Since I will be working for the same company, I just needed to talk to the people at that particular store. They told me what they were looking for and I told them what I was looking for, etc. It wasn't really a formal interview, but they could have still declined the transfer request.

How soon?

Well, as soon as next weekend. They want me to start on the 28th, but the problem right now is that my current store doesn't know. Well, they know that I wish to transfer, but they don't know the current situation. I tried calling my boss, but he has had his cell phone turned off. I guess it's better that I tell him face-to-face rather than over the phone.

I did look at a few apartments while I was there. Some were okay, but others were out of my price range. Now, I do have a place to stay, but not a place to live. I'll be staying with a friend once I get up there for about a week or so and then move into a place of my own.

My friend Mark and his family are always accommodating, but they have 3 kids so I really don't want to stay there too long and become a burden or as I put it "their 4th kid."

I did get some time to socialize while I was there which was fun. I honestly didn't think I would have time to, but I did get to hang with some friends. Dinner and lunch meetings mostly, but still good. Told a few people that I was going to be moving back. Excitement abounds!

Other highlights of the trip:

1. I got to see Harry Potter in between looking at apartments. Just needed a little time to get out of the hot sun. The movie rawked.
2. Saw Transformers with Mark the night before I left. The movie suddenly became cheesy to me after a second viewing.
3. My iPod is dying. I had to listen to the radio on the return trip. Not fun. It was acting funny on the way there and it finally gave the "sad" iPod icon which pretty much means it's gotta go to service. However, I did a restore this morning and so far so good.

Anyways, my time on the net will now be limited. I'll be packing up stuff between now and next Wednesday or Thursday. I go up to start on the 28th and after a week or two, I come back to get the rest of my stuff (furniture, etc).

I'll try to post when I can.

Almost!

I just got back from seeing the Transformers movie.

Short Review: Holy shit!

Medium review: I like a good action film, but I don't like it when action movies don't give a chance for the viewers to breathe. This one had one slow down moment and it was too silly to take seriously. Hearing Optimus say "My bad" was a little too much for my tastes.

The action and effects were top notch, don't get me wrong, but I felt that we were given too much to take in and never given a chance to digest it.

Still, it was a good film and I'll see it again and purchase it on DVD once it comes out. I'll bet we'll see it before Christmas on home video.

Okay. I know the artist. I know the name.

Can't find it for download anywhere.

If ANYONE has "Touch the Sky" by Hadley please let me know!

Edit: Found it. Thanks for all of those who looked. :)

Well, after a few phone calls I have an interview with the head of the Geek Squad at the Best Buy in Columbia, MO on 7/17. Sadly, it will be a quick in-and-out trip which means not much (if any) time to socialize with friends. I'll have to be apartment hunting and stuff while I'm not doing the interview.

Still, I'm psyched!!
